Magnetic Properties of all Hard Magnetic Materials  (Permanent Magnet Materials, e.g. Neodymium, Samarium Cobalt, Ferrite etc.)

Properties of Magnetic Materials

Magnetic materials are vital to modern civilization. From powering large utility generators to driving small electric motors in vehicles, these materials play a central role in converting electrical energy to mechanical energy and vice versa. However, during this energy conversion process, magnetic materials dissipate heat. Choosing the wrong material can lead to excessive heat generation, potentially shortening the lifespan of the machine. Therefore, selecting materials with minimal heat dissipation is crucial.

The heat generated by magnetic materials can vary significantly, as some are more efficient than others. This efficiency is measured using two key parameters:

  • Magnetization Curves: show how magnetic flux density B [tesla] varies with magnetic field strength H [Amp/m].
  • Core Loss Curves: Show how heat dissipated P [watt/kg] changes with flux density B [tesla].

With numerous manufacturers producing a variety of Grades, selecting the most suitable magnetic material becomes a complex process. Variables such as material grade, lamination thickness, orientation, annealing, field strength, flux density, frequency, and temperature all affect performance. Determining which material dissipates the least heat requires analyzing this data meticulously—a challenging and time-consuming task that is the focus of this website.

MagWeb's Solution

MagWeb simplifies this process with its comprehensive magnetic property database and innovative visualization tools. The database includes thousands of magnetizations and core loss curves for magnetic materials from manufacturers worldwide. The digital data is carefully smoothened by proprietary algorithms to ensure fast convergence when used with Finite Element-based Magnetic Field software such as Maxwell, COMSOL, etc.

Visualizers of Magnetic Properties

MagWeb presents this digital data in graphical form in web-based solutions called Visualizers They allow users to graphically compare the magnetic properties of different grades using an interactive interface. Features like a movable cursor make it easy to evaluate and identify materials with lower core losses, ensuring the best choice for your electric machines. MagWeb’s visualizers provide versatile tools to adjust variables and display property curves for thousands of material grades. They empower users to make informed decisions quickly and efficiently.
